Elisabeth Bieber

Mezzo-Soprano

Biography

Mezzo-Soprano, Elisabeth Bieber, has been noted for her “spine-tingling” performances and her “warm, fluid [tone]… even in scale from top to bottom.”  Holding degrees in both English and Music, Ms. Bieber’s love of poetry and story makes her a compelling singing-actor.

In the 2013-14 season, Ms. Bieber has performed the role of Mercedes in Bizet’s Carmen with both Opera Omaha and Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre.  She was a featured soloist in Opera Omaha’s 2013-14 season preview concert, Opera Outdoors, featuring arias and scenes from Carmen, Agrippina and La Cenerentola where she was seen as Carmen, Ottone and Angelina (respectively).

In the Spring of 2013, she revisited the role of the Third Lady at Opera Omaha in a production of The Magic Flute designed by artist Jun Kaneko.  Other recent engagements include Kate Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly with Opera Omaha and Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre, and as the alto soloist in Mendelssohn’s Elijah with Omaha Symphony.

Ms. Bieber’s operatic stage experience includes the roles of Dorabella in Cosi fan tutte, Maddalena in Rigoletto, Dritte Dame in Die Zauberflöte, Elizabeth Proctor in The Crucible, Desireé Armfeldt in A Little Night Music and the title roles in The Rape of Lucretia and La Cenerentola.  As an apprentice artist with Utah Symphony and Opera, she was involved with the world premiere production of Ricky Ian Gordon’s The Grapes of Wrath.

Equally comfortable on the concert stage, Ms. Bieber made her debut with the St. Louis Masterworks Chorale as the alto soloist in Mozart’s Requiem last spring.  She has performed with the symphonies of Omaha, Waterloo-Cedar Falls and Orchestra Iowa.

Ms. Bieber was a first place winner at the 2007 Minnesota District Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions.  In 2006, she was a National Semi-Finalist for the NATS American Artists competition and an Encouragement Award winner at the Upper Midwest Regional Met Auditions.

Elisabeth has served apprenticeships with Utah Symphony and Opera, Bel Canto at Caramoor, Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre, Opera Santa Barbara and two seasons with Des Moines Metro Opera.

Ms. Bieber holds degrees from Luther College and the University of Iowa.
